Intelligence Squared Debate: Should We Prohibit Genetically Engineered Babies?
(February 19, 2013)
PROPOSITION: Prohibit genetically engineered babies.
RESOLVED: We should prohibit genetically engineered babies. Pre-Debate Response: Do you agree or disagree with the proposition? Explain your position in a paragraph. Beneath the paragraph, brainstorm a list of arguments that you anticipate hearing for and against the proposition in the debate. During the debate: Take notes on the arguments each side uses to support its stance. (You will have a handout to do this.) Place check marks next to any arguments that you anticipated on your pre-debate response argument list. Post-Debate Response: Did your own ideas change in your pre-debate response? If so, how or why? If not, why not? Based on what you heard, did the affirmative or negative win the debate? Why? |
